Over the years men have really started to explore their options when it comes to looking their best. Here is some information for you guys that will answer a lot of your questions when it comes to making your hair look thicker, hiding receding hairlines, causes of hair loss, blending grey without looking "colored" and what products to use for certain looks.
There are many reasons why men start to loose their hair but I am going to tell you about the 3 main ones and if their is anything you can do about it.
This is the most common reason. If this is the cause of your hair loss their may not be too much you can do about it other than hair plugs.
This can happens if you do not take proper care of your hair and scalp. By this I mean washing your hair regularly, do not share your hats or anything else that touches your hair or scalp with others. This reason for hair loss is treatable by contacting your doctor for anti-fungal medications.
This is for you men that go to the gym on a regular basis or wear hats all the time. When the scalp sweats and is not properly cleansed right after, the sweat hardens and can clog your pores. This reduces the amount of oxygen that can get to your hair follicle and eventually, your hair stops growing. If this is happening to you then you need to get yourself a really good shampoo and make sure that you reduce the amount of time you spend in a hat, or make sure to wash your hair after you sweat. The best thing for men is to take preventative measures (take care of your scalp before the problem begins) because once you have started losing your hair it is a lot harder to get it back.
If your hair loss is not hereditary, there are a few things you can do to prevent the unwanted loss of hair.
These shampoos often have a mint or eucalyptus type aroma. Do not go and spend hundreds of dollars on fancy hair loss shampoos. They are not necessary. For a good shampoo you should expect to spend between $15 and $30 dollars. Any more is a rip off.
This will build up in your hair because most shampoos can’t cut through the wax. Ask your stylist what products contain more natural ingredients and go with those. Remember that natural often costs more than synthetic so be prepared to spend. Average cost $20-$35.
Once you have already lost a significant amount of hair, unfortunately there is not a lot you can do about it that is cheap and done at home. If you make an appointment to see your doctor they may be able to prescribe something stronger than what your stylist can give you. There are also hair plugs (and they look a lot better these days than what they used to!)
Get some highlights in the areas that are thinner. Lighter makes things look bigger, darker makes things look smaller. This doesn't mean that you should go and get a tone of white highlights put into your hair, but if you just make the thinner areas a little lighter it will make the world of a difference.
Ask your stylist to leave the hair around your hairline (particularly in the corners) a little longer. When styling you can pull them down a little to make you hairline look however you like.
Our salon offers 5 minute color for men with salt and pepper hair. What it does is blend the grey. This means that it will make the grey not so "grey" looking. When you are finished no one at the office will know what you did, but they will know that something is different.
